5 Ways to Get Fresh Ideas (that actually work)

A system to innovate.

Hey reader,

In real estate, it's easy to keep doing the same things over and over. If it ain't broke, right?

But the world is always changing.

If you don't change too, you might fall behind.

Why is this important?

If you don't change, you might miss good chances.

The best real estate companies always learn new things.

They make their old ways better and try new things too. This helps them stay on top.

If you don't do this, other companies might do better than you.

What do syndicators usually try?

Research shows 2 groups of companies - perfectionists, pretenders, and pioneers.

Perfectionists only try to make their old ways perfect. This is good, but it's not enough. They don't come up with new ideas.

Pretenders try new things without a good plan. This wastes time and money.

Pioneers are true innovators.

Successful companies focus on innovation to grow their business.

This doesn't pertain only to markets and products.

Pioneers touch on operations, communications, and employee retention.

Industrial/Organizational psychology is the science of people at work.

Here's the latest research on workplace creativity - from companies like Google, Meta, and Patagonia.

How they do it:

1) Incentivize New Ideas:

Make innovation a part of your company's core beliefs.

Set goals to innovate.

Reward team members who think of great ideas.

2) Brainstorm Differently:

Your best ideas occur outside of work.

So have meetings on the go. Equip everyone on the team with a mobile "idea capturing" app.

To think outside the box, think outside the office.

3) Small Experiments:

Test new ideas through small-scale experiments.

Validate ideas often.

Don't be afraid to fail forward.

“I have not failed 10,000 times—I've successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”

Thomas Edison

4) Celebrate Mistakes:

Create a culture where trying new things and making mistakes earns rewards. Lead by example to build psychological safety.

At the end of every day, I write 3 quick prompts in a bedside journal.

  • 1 bit of gratitude

  • 1 mistake I made that day

  • 1 funny moment

Normalize mistakes. Fear of failure kills great ideas every day.

5) Continuous Improvement:

Kaizen. It sounds great on paper but hard to enforce.

Why?

It stalls at the top.

Be open to change.

Be willing to listen to every idea.

It's hard to try new things AND do your usual work. But it's crucial if you want to live your dreams.

Companies that excel at both new and old things will thrive.

They stay relevant. Keep learning.

Mix new ideas with your pre-existing excellence. You're future-proofing.

You have a big brain with piles of talent. Let it shine!

Stay aware & stay in the game my friend,

Chris
